Appliances may not tell you the ways to catch a cheater, but they do a lot more.

Are Smart Home Appliances Worth The Cost

Posted by

My wife and I recently decided we’re finally going to do the kitchen renovation we’ve been dreaming of for the last 10 years. Now that our kids are getting older, the layout and organization of the kitchen just doesn’t work for our family. So we’re going for it. A TOTAL gut and renovation, and that includes getting new appliances. We’ve been discussing the pros and cons of upgrading to smart appliances. Some of them are really expensive. It’s true smart appliances won’t let you catch a cheater in the process, but they do a lot more. But is the added capability and functionality worth the extra cost? I think so.

Here’s why I think smart appliances are worth paying more for:

Kid Friendly

Kids these days are extremely tech savvy. Kids know how to use iPads when they’re toddlers, and they can use smartphones by the time they can talk but having kids use older model appliances can be tricky. They don’t understand appliances that aren’t technology based. Smart appliances are easy for kids to use because they understand tech devices, and smart appliances are easier for parents to monitor thanks to apps on tablets and phones. I don’t have to worry about my kids making themselves a snack when I’m at the office. When they’re home from school because I can check for myself to make sure the stove is off or that the refrigerator door is closed. My wife jokes that she can probably help her friend catch a cheater boyfriend with this kind of technology.

Before we bought our home, we lived in a townhouse. The person who lived next door went to comfort her crying child and forgot the bottle on the stove. The bottle melted and caught fire. They escaped safely, but the townhouse was destroyed. There are stories like that every day on the news. It was scary to experience a house fire so close to our home, and it made me extremely safety conscious. I love that you can always check to make sure that you remembered to turn the stove off, or turn down the heat, or make sure the coffee pot switched off the way it’s supposed to.

When you look at how smart appliances can make home life better and safer for families, it seems like buying the smart appliances is the right choice. I usually only looks at the bottom line, but in this case, it is 100 percent worth it. When you have more control over the appliances in your home, you will have more time to focus on the things that really matter. Of course that includes the occasional chats with your wife about the ways to catch a cheater. Haha.

If you are looking to remodel more than just your kitchen, you can read what I shared about that in my other post.
